MUTEBI PHILLIP
FOUNDER/ EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR/ LEGAL OFFICER

Phillip is the founder HUREED. He founded HUREED after his great love of advocating for Equitable Access to Justice for all people and all genders in Uganda.

Phillip is a Legal Officer with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Makerere University School of Law, a Diploma in Human Rights from Law Development Center and Diploma in Security Management from University of South Africa (UNISA). Phillip has worked with other Human Rights organizations like Human Rights Awareness and Promotion Forum where he was hosting their Central Region legal aid desk where he was providing free legal aid representation to their target groups. He also worked with Defenders Protection Initiative as a Security Focal Person leading their Eastern Region where he was assessing and verifying cases.

Phillip is a vocal human rights activist and he has long time experience in advocating for the rights of minorities with high analytical and communication skills. He also experience in conducting security assessments for organizations and individuals.

Phillip enjoys supporting people in need, adventuring new places and watching football in his free time.

KASIMU SADATI SSALI
INTERIM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR/ LEGAL OFFICER

Kasimu has been working with HUREED for the last six years; he is a professional lawyer with a Master’s degree in Legal studies from Kampala International University (KIU). In his activism he provides free legal services through representing vulnerable community members at court and police, assists them in drafting court documents and leads mediations with an aim of ensuring that community members attain justice. In his free time he loves swimming, and playing volleyball.

SSENYANGE SALIM
PROGRAMS MANAGER

Salim joined the team in 2019 after previously working with MUGALU AND COMPANY FISHERIES as a general manager, with a bachelor’s degree in Development Studies from Busitema University and a diploma in political science from Kyambogo University in Uganda. He joined HUREED because he has a desire to put an end to the rampant human rights violations that are ongoing in Uganda.
In his free time, he likes watching national and internal news.

BIRABWA JESCA
PROJECTS MANAGER

Jesca joined HUREED in 2019, having previously worked with Dream Africa Schools Kawuku-Entebbe branch as the ICT teacher. Jesca also worked with other private and government schools as a teacher, and in small scale businesses as an administrator.  The many human rights violations faced by community members at her home area inspired her to join HUREED because she needed them to achieve justice and enjoy their rights.

Jesca attained a Bachelor’s degree in information technology from Gulu University in Uganda, a Bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ndeje University and a Diploma in political science from Busoga University.
Besides work, she loves traveling to new places and cooking snacks.

NAKALANZI ANNE
HUMAN RESOURCE/ MONITORING AND EVALUATION

Anne joined the team in 2020, having previously worked with Glory Construction Company as an Accountant with a Bachelor’s degree in Arts in Economics from Makerere University. Anne has worked with public and private schools, and small businesses. In her time, she enjoys going on road trips with her friend Sarah, and going to church every evening to praise God.

NANSUBUGA RASHIDAH
FINANCE OPERATIONS MANAGER

Rashidah joined the team in 2021 after previously working with Lugazi Municipality as an assistant accountant, with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a diploma in Finance and accounting from Makerere University Business School. In her free time Rashida loves watching movies and going on road trips.

KYOMUHENDO FAITH
PROJECTS FINANCE/ HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST

Faith joined our team in 2019 after recently working with GOD CARES Ministries as a ministry administrator, with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from B. Shop Balm University in Uganda. Faith also acquired a certificate in Business law from Uganda College of Commerce. As a human Rights Activist, faith sensitizes during awareness sessions about the rights of vulnerable community members. She also conducts police and court interventions on behalf of clients with an aim of ensuring that they get the justice they need.  In her free time, she loves listening to soft music and making friendly conversations.

KISAIRE YUSUF
HEAD ACCESS TO JUSTICE DEPARTMENT

Yusuf has been an activist and a leader in Access to Justice Department for the past 5 years, and he has led the HUREED disciplinary Committee since 2022. Yusuf has served the community by providing free legal assistance to marginalized groups, through representing them in court and at police. He also facilitates at awareness sessions, sensitizes people about their rights and laws that affect them. Yusuf holds a diploma in Law and a Bachelor’s degree in Ethics and Human Rights from Islamic University In Uganda (IUIU).Outside work, Yusuf enjoys reading, watching football and meeting people.

BUYONDO FRED
HEAD ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT DEPARTMENT

Fred has worked with HUREED as the head- Economic empowerment Department for the last five years. Fred strives to improve the standard of living of vulnerable community members by equipping them with hands on skills such as liquid soap making, candle making, Chalk making, Charcoal briquettes molding, hair dressing, and art and design. Fred is also a Human Rights Activist who defends the rights of sexual minorities by representing them at court and police, conduct mediations, provide legal advice, and sensitizing community members about their rights. Fred acquired a Bachelor’s degree in procurement and logistics management from Kyambogo University in Uganda. In his free time, he loves swimming and making research about the ongoing judicial matters at a national level.

NAMPIIMA SHARIFAH JUMA
HEAD RESEARCH, ADVOCACY AND DOCUMENTATION/ ICT OFFICER
Juma joined HUREED in 2019, having previously worked with DIVINE driving school as an accountant, with a Bachelor’s degree in business studies from Islamic University In Uganda (IUIU). Juma has worked with private financial companies more so loan institutions. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies, cooking and she going to the mosque every evening to pray to her God.

WALUBI SULAIT
HEAD COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT DEPARTMENT/ HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST

Sulaiti has been an activist working with our team for the last 3 years.  Sulaiti has served the community by providing free legal assistance to marginalized groups, through representing them in court and at police. He also facilitates at awareness sessions, sensitizes people about their rights and laws that affect them. Sulaiti holds a diploma in laws from Kampala International University (KIU). In his free time he enjoys watching football matches and visiting prisons and police stations.

KITEMYA JOSEPH
HEAD HEALTH DEPARTMENT

Joseph has been an activist and a leader in Health Department since 2017, and he has been a committee member on the HUREED Disciplinary committee since 2021. Joseph has served the community by sensitizing them about the spread and prevention of HIV and other sexuality transmitted diseases, providing free guidance and counseling services, HIV testing and distributing HIV/AIDs preventive health materials like condoms, Lubricants and PrEP.  Joseph also advocates for the rights of community members in case they have any health related human rights violations. Joseph acquired a Bachelor’s degree in Counseling and Guidance from Nkumba University in Uganda.  In his free time, he loves reading the bible, going for outings at beaches and visiting the vulnerable people.

MUSUBIKA MIRIA
RESEARCH AND DOCUMENTATION OFFICER

Miriam joined HUREED in 2018, having for a long time worked with a food processing industry as a general manager, with a diploma in Secretariat from Uganda to Young Women Christian Association. Miriam makes research about the problems and challenges faced by community members, then documents her findings and lastly, she advocates for the rights of vulnerable community members by being a voice for those voiceless people. Miriam is also a committee member on the HUREED disciplinary Committee. Outside work, Miriam loves watching football and movies.

NAKIGULI IRENE
COMMUNITY PARALEGAL/ ADVOCACY OFFICER

Irene joined our team in 2022 after previous working with Research World International as a research officer, with a Certificate in Research Methodology from Buganda Royal Institute of Business and Technical education in Uganda. As a human rights activist, Irene provides legal services to community members by giving them legal advice, and teaching during awareness sessions about their rights. As a research and advocacy officer, she makes investigations about challenges faced by community members and then advocates for them by reaching out to the responsible persons with an aim that they get justice. Besides work, Irene loves playing with children, reading novels and meditating in quiet areas.

SSERUGONJA GEOFREY
COMMUNITY PARALEGAL

Geofrey works with HUREED as the deputy head Access to Justice Department and as a Community paralegal. For the last four years, Geoffrey has been promoting human rights in Uganda by providing legal aid related services such as conducting police and court interventions on behalf of vulnerable community members, providing them with legal advice, and conducting awareness sessions where he teaches community members about their rights. Geoffrey is a professional journalist with a certificate in journalism from REACHCOM Media services in Uganda. In his free time, Geoffrey likes watching international news and football.

NAKHOMBI ANTHONY
COMMUNITY PARALEGAL

Anthony has been a human rights activist at HUREED since 2021 to date. He joined our team after working with PEARL Investment Limited, where he worked as a receptionist. Anthony serves the vulnerable community members by representing them at court and police, conducts awareness sessions where he sensitizes them about their rights. Anthony acquired a certificate in law at Kampala international university in Uganda. Besides work, Anthony loves playing video games and watching football matches.

IGAGA HASHIM
HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST

Hashim has worked with our team since 2022 after previously working with St Lawrence Schools as a Quarter Master, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health Sciences from School of Hygiene Mbale. Hashim also acquired a diploma in law from Uganda Christian University (UCU). As a human rights activist, he has been providing free legal assistance to community members by representing them at police and court, and also through providing them with free legal advice. In his free time, he loves taking journey travels and adventures to new places.

NABUKERA ANISHA
HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST

Anisha joined HUREED in 2022 after she previously worked with a hair lounge company as a cashier. Due to her desire for defending the rights of discriminated vulnerable communities in Uganda, she requested to join our team and she has been providing them with legal related services such as providing them with legal advice, conducting door to door sensitizations and she attends police suspect’s parades and conducts police and prison visits with an aim of identifying community members that need legal support. Anisha is also an officer in Economic Empowerment Department, where she trains the unemployed vulnerable community members in hands on skills most especially hair dressing skills. Anisha acquired a Bachelor’s degree in finance and Accounting from Metropolitan International University in Uganda. In her free time, she loves making journey travels to make adventures and watching movies.

NAMUBIRU PAULINE
HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST

Pauline joined our team in 2019 and has been working with us as a human rights activist for the last four years. She strives to ensure justice for all community members, which she achieves through providing them with free legal services such as representing them at police and court, teaching during awareness sessions about their rights, and providing free legal advice to them. Pauline acquired a certificate in Administrative Law from Uganda Pentecostal University (UPU). In her free time she loves watching movies and having friendly conversations.

KIBIRANGO IVAN
HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST

Ivan has been a human rights activist working with HUREED for the last four years. The ongoing human rights violations faced by vulnerable community members in Uganda inspired him to join HUREED because it could be a favorable base for him to defend the rights of vulnerable community members.
Ivan attained a certificate in Administrative law from Uganda Pentecostal University (UPU). In his free time he enjoys watching football and horror movies.

NEKESA JACKLINE
HEALTH / ADVOCACY OFFICER

Jackline has been a health officer in the Health Department since 2021 and she has also been an advocacy officer at HUREED.  As a health officer, she has always served the community by teaching them about the spread and prevention of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, giving them free guidance and counseling services, conducting HIV testing, and distributing HIV preventive health materials such as condoms, lubricants and PrEP. Jackline also advocates for community members whose health rights have been violated. Jackline attained a diploma in counseling and guidance from Victoria University in Uganda. Besides work, she likes listening to music, watching news, reading newspapers, and singing.

Bamukobyeku Betty
Health officer and Advocacy officer

Betty has been a health officer in the Health Department since 2022 and she has also been an advocacy officer at HUREED since January 2023.  As a health officer she has always served the community by  teaching them about the spread and prevention of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, giving them free counseling and guidance services, conducting HIV tests on community people and distributing to them HIV preventive health materials such as condoms, lubricants and PrEP. Betty also advocates for community members whose health rights have been violated. Betty acquired a diploma in counseling and guidance from Busitema University in Uganda. Besides work, she likes listening to music, watching news and reading newspapers.

NAMIRIMU SAUYA
OFFICE ADMINISTRATOR

Sauya joined HUREED in 2021 after being inspired by the desire to defend vulnerable community members whose rights were frequently violated. Sauya acquired a Bachelor’s degree in Business administration from Gulu University in Uganda. In her free time she loves playing with children and skipping ropes.

NAKALEMA PROSSY
OFFICE ASSISTANT

Prossy joined the team in 2021, having previously worked with a communication company as a customer care service attendant, with a diploma in business administration at Bugema University in Uganda. Prossy has worked with several small scale businesses as a receptionist. In her time, she enjoys watching movies and playing video games.

NAMUSISI SARAH
Human Rights Activist

Sarah has been working with HUREED for the last two years, she formally worked with community grass roots non-government charity organizations, but due to her desire for defending the rights of more vulnerable community members, she decided to join HUREED. In her activism, she facilitates during awareness sessions where she teaches community members about their rights. She also conducts door to door sensitizations where she eradicates community members about their rights and she provides them with free legal advice where need be. Sarah attained a Bachelor’s degree in Social work and Social Administration from Nkumba University in Uganda.
Besides work she loves chatting with friends and making new friends.

Mukasa Abdul Luyulika
Office Messenger 

Mukasa has been a human rights activist and working as an office messenger at HUREED since 2022. He joined our team after working at Ssenyi landing site in Uganda as a fisher monger for five years. From the so many human rights violations that he witnessed at Ssenyi landing site, Abdul decided to join a human rights group where he can refer other community members experiencing injustices so that they can get free legal aid assistance. Mukasa acquired a certificate in secretariat from Kabale Business School (KABS) in Uganda. Besides work, Mukasa loves staying alone in quiet places and taking drinks.
